The day of the reaping is upon us and in honor of this year's Hunger Games, we have personally curated groupings inspired by our flora named heroines.
The Girl who was on Fire. That is how our heroine Katniss becomes known as she battles her way through the Hunger Games. From the dirt poor District 12, she is transformed through the course of these games into a fiery heartbreaker, a star crossed lover, and the main one to beat. Our selection is inspired by a combination of her onscreen persona and ironclad will to survive.
The best and brightest of red color gemstones come in the form of carnelian or agate. Carnelian can be solid or swirled, but is always vibrant. It is the closest to wearing fire itself, while red agate is solid and deep without being too dark nor losing its brightness. A serious weight comes with the appeal of red agate that no one can deny. In the story it is noted that coal is often misconceived to become diamonds.
Sweet and everloving Primrose Everdeen. The little sister and most precious person to Katniss. At the onstart of this saga, she is a gentle soul that the district "can't help but love." The odds were not in her favor as she was originally selected as female tribute for the hunger games until Katniss volunteered in her place to save her from almost certain death. She is named for the Primrose as her sister is named for the Katniss plant. A bright light for her older sibling in a place darkly coated with coal miners dust. She shows early signs to be a natural healer like her mother.
Everything is sweet and gentle with Primrose that immediately flowers come to mind. Not only are flowers an often seen motif in jewelry, it is currently one of the latest trends this year. The black onyx and pink flower earrings represent the contrast of Prim to her environment, while the crystal earrings are a nod to her intended future as a healer to her district. Cameos are also back in the current trend pool and often feature nuturing silhouettes of mothers and angels.
Inside the arena Katniss allies herself Rue who could very well be Primrose's Disctrict 11 doppelgänger in her size, demeanor, and name. She comes from the agricultural district of Panem, which gives her a dense knowledge of edible plants, roots, and berries that helps her survive in the arena. Light as a kite, she can easily escape her enemies by jumping from tree to tree.
Rue, also a flower, is a bright spot in the dark world of the Hunger Games. Her background in agriculture inspires colors of vegetation and grains. Each design selected is a tip to her name or district. There are three different green stones featured in our selection: Jade, Green Amethyst, and Green Onyx. From neon to deep jewel tones, green has become a stand out this year. Neutral tones in browns will be the complimenting partner, whether within the same design or stacked together.
The Hunger Games is now playing at a theater near you, but please read the book first.
