Match Maker Series: Dried Herb

Get in tune with Mother Earth this year.

There is no better time to be fashionably green than now. Of all the colors featured, Dried Herb is what we will call the "Earthiest". One benefit of wearing this darker, muted green is that you can wear any type of metal jewelry - gold, silver, blackened silver, rose gold - it all works. Despite its muted look, wearing such a color during the summer season is more bold than wearing red or yellow. Its unexpected. For all the truly fashion savvy out there, Dried Herb also transitions well into this coming fall/winter season, which means you can keep some of those summer clothes and accessories and mix and match with your winter ones.

JewelMak's multi gemstone necklace color palette compliments the earthy green tone of Dried Herb. A mix of citrine, tourmaline, and smokey quartz stones can easily be worn into the Fall season. At 36 inches the length keeps it young and fresh. But if you're looking for something more traditional, JewelMak has a 2 row princess length version as well.

Being bold is not just about wearing bright colors like red and yellow. Being bold also can is just being different and forward thinking. Wearing a muted color during the summer is different and pairing it with sparkling gems is like icing on the cake.

Tungsten Man

There is a new metal creating waves in the jewelry industry. Tungsten

Tungsten has become a popular metal in jewelry, particularly men’s jewelry. This is mainly due to its harsh durability, naturally dark hue and modern look. Tungsten or Tungsten carbide has a high resistance to scratching and bending. It's stronger than diamonds, unscratchable, undentable. Götz Switzerland has a masculine tungsten collection with chain link bracelets and rings, both faceted and textured.

Tungsten has long been used in more domesticated products, such as light bulbs, since its melting point is incredibly high. Which is percisely why tungsten rings are near impossible to resize. With a tungsten band, one never has to worry about wear and tear, just too tight or too loose.

Match Maker Series: Aurora

In honor of the first week of sunny days this year, today's select color for the Match Maker series is the Pantone Spring/Summer 2010 color Aurora. This season, bright yellow is best matched with equally happy colors. Some would contrast it with darker hues in colder tones set in gold, which would also work nicely. Deep purples or rich dark blues would certainly suffice and give any outfit of yellow a serious, harder look. But we're moving into the season of fun in the sun, so contrasts should be bright and fun.

A fun contrast is JewelMak's magnesite turquoise necklace pictured above. It's much like wearing a print. Against the bright yellow, this necklace definitely pops.

Of course not everyone wears yellow so boldly. You may wear prints featuring yellow. In that case, there's nothing wrong with being monochromatic either.

These hoop earrings from JewelMak's "Eclipse" collection have a texture that gives them a subtle statement. The light gemstones set within the gold overlay keeps the look light.

Match Maker Series: Amparo Blue

The Match Maker Series is dedicated to showcasing a choice color along with a select jewelry style that either match or compliment the color. Some choices may be safe and some may seem unconventional, but stylish.

We begin our Match Maker series with the color Amparo Blue.

Amparo Blue is pretty close to your basic blue and is among the ten colors featured in Pantone's Fashion Colors for Spring/Summer 2010. Blue in general is a very commonly worn color. It looks good on most skin tones and is the universal color category for all things "Boy". Lucky for us, fashion does not discriminate when it comes to its textiles. Therefore, neither does jewelry. Our complimentary selection for today's choice color of Amparo Blue is JewelMak's three row necklace with Magnesite Turquoise, Turquoise coated Mother of Pearl, and Heminorphine.

The reasoning behind this choice is that this style takes care of the layering for you, yet it is still at a conservative length. It would not be a traditional choice, but it would definitely add an edgier feel if you were to match this piece with a classic blue shift dress. The white of the heminorphine and the off blue green mix of the magnesite turquoise give a good contrast. Give it a try!

Spring/Summer colors of 2010

It's March already and this oddly warm weather is just going to get warmer. So let's get our summer wardrobe ready with Pantone's fashion color report for Spring/Summer 2010.

As you can see, this season's palette is generally very earthy with a few pops of brights. Which works perfectly for using jewelry accents. One can make a light summer outfit pop with large gemstone earrings or a stack of colored agate bracelets.

Agate bangles and large amethyst earrings available at www.jewelmak.com

Wearing bright colors can be intimidating, but the summer is a perfect time for trying out new colors. If a red agate is too loud for you, start with a pair of soft turquoise drops or even a sweet coral necklace. Layering many small chains and necklaces also allows you to create a bold statement with subtle elements that will keep you in your comfort zone.

The Chandelier Debate

The Chandelier earring is back in the forefront this coming fall season. But were they ever really gone? We believe that chandeliers and big drops will always be fashionable no matter what the current trend is. Of course chandeliers come in so many variations, from the ornate to the multi layered, making it very versatile.

In today's age of the independent career woman, a fashionable and functional day to night look is a must have. Chandelier earrings are an item that can translate easily. It can act as the compliment or the signature piece of an ensemble. At this year's Academy Awards, ingenue actress Carey Mulligan rocked these large diamond chandeliers.

They brought the attention to her face and elongated her neck creating an elegant look to compliment her edgy Prada dress.

Chandeliers can be an everyday look as well. Take JewelMak's popular gemstone chandeliers. These best sellers are the perfect styles to go from the office to a night out on the town.

Simply put, you can never be without a good chandelier....earring.

Making a Statement...With Jewelry

This year's Academy Awards once again proved one major fashion habit about the Hollywood elite: When it comes to jewelry, they stick with what's safe. And what's safe is diamonds on top of more diamonds.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with diamonds. They are in fact, a girl's best friend. A fact that has been reiterated throughout pop culture (ie. Marilyn Monroe to Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge) Diamonds are sought after not only because they sparkle for the cameras, but more importantly they match every outfit. The traditional white diamond goes with any choice and therefore make a great accent to the "dress".

In the red carpet rule book, it's all about the dress. That is the question first and foremost on the mind of every correspondent. But every once in a while, a daring individual will flip that rule on its head and make a statement with the jewelry.

The perfect example would be Angelina Jolie's 2009 Oscar look. She wore an elegant black Elie Saab gown that night, but the only thing people could talk about was the pair of large emerald drops at her ears. Of course, being Angelina Jolie, a stream of imitations flooded the market the next morning. Although, who can blame them?

Some of our other favorite individualists:

Cate Blanchet wearing a vintage necklace

Cameron Diaz being inventive by using a vintage necklace as a belt.

Eva Mendes making a bold statement in a turquoise bib necklace.

So all you celebrities take note: Be bold with your baubles!
