Lights, Brights, & Burgundy! It's the 2012 Emmys!

It's the biggest night for prime time TV and all the biggest stars of the small screen came out in their Sunday best to celebrate all of television, even the programs that require no mental activity whatsoever.

It was a colorful red carpet this year with TV's leading ladies stepping out in bright yellow, red, green, and blue. Complimenting those ensembles was a resurgence in statement jewelry; most impressive were the earrings.

Earrings are truly one size fits all so its the best go to jewelry piece, but in the past couple of years the red carpet has been pretty bare of unique and sculptural earrings. This time, nothing was held back.

White Hot

White is the new Black! Neutral tone jewelry can be so drab to the point of non existence, so why not punch up your accessories with white jewelry?

Neutrals have been a fashion trend for a while and sometimes that doesn’t necessarily translate to really wearable or fashionable items. We at JewelMak, find that while white is bright enough to be its own trend

45 Seconds with...

Designers gather inspiration from a variety of places, but at the heart of it, the inspiration has to speak to the soul.

Today we splotlight Andy Götz, founding President and Creative Director of Götz Switzerland. Born and raised in Zurich, he made his way to New York and steadily built up his company JewelMak, Inc.into an interntaionally branded jewelry design and manufacturer. In 2008, he launched Götz Switzerland to provide stylish men with a wider range of accessories.

What makes your pieces so special?
My heart is in New York, where I reside, but my soul is still in Switzerland where I grew up. My watches and jewelry are a combination of Swiss detailing, precision and quality with a distinct NY flair.

What are your styling tips for fine jewelry?
Casual elegance. Accessorize and wear jewelry with confidence. Mix and match for everyday fun. Enjoy life. Be and show yourself.

What do we need to know about you?
I'm passionate about creating lasting jewelry that makes people happy.

Staff Favorites: A Color Series

For the month leading up to JCK Las Vegas, we will feature a hand selected color grouping from members of our very own staff. This week's edition features Pink Flambé.

Our Sales Support Natasha
takes us through her favorite pink picks of the season.
(Clockwise spiral starting from top)
Pink makes me feel feminine and powerful. I think it's always in fashion - there are a lot of girly girls out there! From big to small, light to hot, pink's got it going on. The red jasper stretch bracelet is a bold statement making piece. Wear it with your favorite T-shirt & jeans combo and be noticed. This crystal drop with red topaz is my favorite of the bunch. It's girly, fun and will add a feminine touch to any outfit. For all the October babies, this delicate pink tourmaline necklace is a very elegant accent for a nice dinner date. Everyone loves versatility and these stackable pink sapphire rings are no exception. Wear together for a funkier edge or just one for a simple clean look. Opal jasper is not an everyday stone, but this necklace can definitely become an everyday staple for the bold dresser. Start your fashionista early with these adorable pink CZ turtle kid earrings. Garnet brings the drama to an otherwise simple bracelet that would be fitting for business attire. Last but not least, our 14k yellow gold emblem with pink tourmaline briolette drop earring is the perfect date piece. You just can't go wrong with fancy and flirty! ~ Natasha

Staff Favorites: A Color Series

For the next month leading up to JCK Las Vegas, we will feature a hand selected color grouping from members of our very own staff. We start with one of the always hot color trends: Royal Purple.

Our Marketing & Sales assistant Risa
takes us through her favorite purple picks of the season.

(Clockwise from top center)

"Purple is associated with wealth and rich sophistication, that is why I chose these pieces. First is the amethyst with citrine and garnet necklace. I love how it's so elegant yet fun because of the brightness of the citrine. Then there's the amethyst pendant in rose gold. It's bold, eye-catching, and will look amazing worn over a simple blouse or shift dress. There is a lightness the multi pink freshwater pearls contribute to this bracelet with amethsyt briolettes. It befits casual attire yet has the ability to transition into more formal wear. The Fiori collection's amethsyt ring set in sterling silver is inexpensive compared to a brilliant diamond, but it has an equally luxurious look when caught in the light. Last but not least The pink amethyst drop earrings are simple and classy, instantly drawing attention to the face." ~ Risa

Carissa Rosario - "Young & Fresh" Perfume Launch

I had the pleasure of attending the preview/launch party for international model Carissa Rosario's new perfume "Young & Fresh". She looked radiant in her peplum LBD and sky high Louboutins. I was ever more excited to see JewelMak's over sized faceted blue topaz cocktail ring on her finger. Thanks to our good friend and stylist, Kevin Stinson for the credit!

According to Carissa, her new scent:

"...is captivating and impossible to resist. The soft, sensual and refreshingly innocent floral fragrance of grapefruit zest, fresh rose and provocative musk are alive, romantic and chic. The delicate light petal-pink color and extraordinary scent defines a fragrance that is both sexy and loving."

I had a great time chatting with pop star Alex Young. Her latest single "Don't Play With Me" is out now and you can currently find her album on iTunes. Check out her video here.

The Hunger Games: A Tribute

The day of the reaping is upon us and in honor of this year's Hunger Games, we have personally curated groupings inspired by our flora named heroines.

The Girl who was on Fire. That is how our heroine Katniss becomes known as she battles her way through the Hunger Games. From the dirt poor District 12, she is transformed through the course of these games into a fiery heartbreaker, a star crossed lover, and the main one to beat. Our selection is inspired by a combination of her onscreen persona and ironclad will to survive.
The best and brightest of red color gemstones come in the form of carnelian or agate. Carnelian can be solid or swirled, but is always vibrant. It is the closest to wearing fire itself, while red agate is solid and deep without being too dark nor losing its brightness. A serious weight comes with the appeal of red agate that no one can deny. In the story it is noted that coal is often misconceived to become diamonds.

Sweet and everloving Primrose Everdeen. The little sister and most precious person to Katniss. At the onstart of this saga, she is a gentle soul that the district "can't help but love." The odds were not in her favor as she was originally selected as female tribute for the hunger games until Katniss volunteered in her place to save her from almost certain death. She is named for the Primrose as her sister is named for the Katniss plant. A bright light for her older sibling in a place darkly coated with coal miners dust. She shows early signs to be a natural healer like her mother.
Everything is sweet and gentle with Primrose that immediately flowers come to mind. Not only are flowers an often seen motif in jewelry, it is currently one of the latest trends this year. The black onyx and pink flower earrings represent the contrast of Prim to her environment, while the crystal earrings are a nod to her intended future as a healer to her district. Cameos are also back in the current trend pool and often feature nuturing silhouettes of mothers and angels.

Inside the arena Katniss allies herself Rue who could very well be Primrose's Disctrict 11 doppelgänger in her size, demeanor, and name. She comes from the agricultural district of Panem, which gives her a dense knowledge of edible plants, roots, and berries that helps her survive in the arena. Light as a kite, she can easily escape her enemies by jumping from tree to tree.
Rue, also a flower, is a bright spot in the dark world of the Hunger Games. Her background in agriculture inspires colors of vegetation and grains. Each design selected is a tip to her name or district. There are three different green stones featured in our selection: Jade, Green Amethyst, and Green Onyx. From neon to deep jewel tones, green has become a stand out this year. Neutral tones in browns will be the complimenting partner, whether within the same design or stacked together.

The Hunger Games is now playing at a theater near you, but please read the book first.

The "Superbowl" of Hollywood

*UPDATED: This story has been updated with new or revised information.

And so another Oscar show has come to pass and we are left feeling much better than we did last year. Billy Crystal returned and brought back all the oldies that are still goodies. The night was really a tribute to the Oscar tradition and Old Hollywood, although many are grumbling about the Academy being a bit too old and out of touch.

One curious observation, why does a notoriously long awards show start a half hour later than all the other awards shows at 8:30?

At least the fashion was a mixed bag last night so let's recap!

RED on the Red Carpet

Oscar weekend is upon us! It has been an interesting year for movies and new red carpet trends. One major color trend that is still around and kicking is bold red looks. In honor of the most famous red carpet in the world, we have compiled some of our favorite RED looks worthy of the red carpet.

Faceted Carnelian
These faceted styles are rich in appeal and vibrant in color.
Great for a nice photo op.

Red Agate & Moonstone
Smooth and sleek, a great accent for the right dress.
Stack a few of the red agate bangle for a fabulous night!

The best of everything: Garnet, Agate & Carnelian
Extravagant to simple.
These earrings are all winners in their own right,
each style for a different individual.

Red Tiger Eye & Red Agate
These statement rings are not your average choice, but would certainly stand out on any red carpet.

March On, Babies

February will be coming to a close soon. (Being the shortest month makes that very easy) Once the Oscars come and go, it's onto March Madness and winter's last chance to be winter in NYC.

A new month means a new birthstone and the royal depths of majestic Amethyst will make way for the wide ranging blue colored Aquamarine. Its color ranges from light light blue to slightly green blue to deep teal. Aquamarine can be considered as much a classic as a ruby, emerald, or sapphire.

A little bit of lore: Sailors used to wear aquamarine gemstones to ward off seasickness and keep them safe.

Warm Tones for Warm Weather

Bright is the motto of this Spring/Summer season. Two major colors that stand out are shades of orange and yellow based on Pantone's official selection for S/S 2012: Tangerine Tango and Solar Power.
There was a time when orange was too out there, too bold, not chic, reserved only for collegiate fashion. Now in the year 2012, the color of the moment is (officially called) Tangerine Tango and it's practically a fashion faux pas to go without.

If red is the color of passion, orange is its optimistic cousin. Associated with joy and celebration, it is an emotional stimulant that encourages laughter and self esteem.
Orange colors come in a scale of intensity amongst natural stones, especially in carnelian. It can go from light to intense deep orange within one stone. Such a piece would make a great compliment to a bold color block tangerine outfit.

While orange has the elements of yellow's happiness, yellow is just happy all the time! Solar Power can represent wisdom and a lust for life. It is an intellectual color, that will encourage individuality. The best stone to match almost perfectly is Citrine. A pair of large citrine drops would certainly be on trend this summer.

Large and chunky is still the style for 2012. Bib and collar necklaces are just as popular as long and layered "Jazz Age" looks. As always, in fashion, it is up to the individual to decide which trends rule. What trend has been your favorite so far?
