A May to December Romance with 2014's Hottest Colors

According to the Haper's BAZAAR Fall runway 2014 trend report, gray is the neutral palette this season. Which is the perfect backdrop for the color of the season: Radiant Orchid. These two colors combined make for a very chic ensemble; from the CEO to the flirt, the combination creates a dynamic effect.

OFFICE
Most office environments require a fashionista to keep things minimal and classy. Simple silhouettes and matching sets always do the trick., but with this year's #1 color, your usual work attire will have a much needed color boost.
( Jason Wu, Georgio Armani, Tod's )

FUN & FLIRTY
For the girly girl that loves a bit of frill, beaded styles always give you an extra playful edge. Mix that with the super feminine Radiant Orchid hue of the moment, and you've got great date night options!
( Ralph Lauren, Valentino )

GLAM
Whether you go glamorously elegant or glamorously bold, Radiant Orchid fits for both a night out
downtown or uptown.

The Golden Globes Rundown: Brought to you by 'Lace'

The 70th annual Golden Globes was a mix of cool fashion and 'interesting' choices. Here we rundown our favorites and the ones that we just don't understand...

As the ManRepeller would say, the 2013 Golden Globes red carpet was a total "arm party". Many of the leading ladies chose a bare collar bone over a statement necklace, yet statement earrings were still going strong. Lorraine Schwartz was a favorite and very on trend with vintage style earrings in various gems besides diamonds. Just in time for the Great Gatsby. Julianne Moore was a walking billboard for having good connections with her Tom Ford dress and Bvlgari jewelry. The dramatic drop earrings and statement cuff were unexpected accessories to such a simplistic dress. It pays to be BFF's with Tom Ford

Staff Favorites: A Color Series

For the next month leading up to JCK Las Vegas, we will feature a hand selected color grouping from members of our very own staff. We start with one of the always hot color trends: Royal Purple.

Our Marketing & Sales assistant Risa
takes us through her favorite purple picks of the season.

(Clockwise from top center)

"Purple is associated with wealth and rich sophistication, that is why I chose these pieces. First is the amethyst with citrine and garnet necklace. I love how it's so elegant yet fun because of the brightness of the citrine. Then there's the amethyst pendant in rose gold. It's bold, eye-catching, and will look amazing worn over a simple blouse or shift dress. There is a lightness the multi pink freshwater pearls contribute to this bracelet with amethsyt briolettes. It befits casual attire yet has the ability to transition into more formal wear. The Fiori collection's amethsyt ring set in sterling silver is inexpensive compared to a brilliant diamond, but it has an equally luxurious look when caught in the light. Last but not least The pink amethyst drop earrings are simple and classy, instantly drawing attention to the face." ~ Risa

Conch Your Knows!

Conch is an extremely versatile shell that makes for beautiful jewelry pieces. It can come in a variety of colors but the deep pink is its most popular and well known shade. Set in silver, JewelMar’s conch grouping captures the heat of the Caribbean in the cool waves of the sea.

Are you familiar with the Conch shell? Here are a few fun facts to get you in the know!

1. The meat of the shell is second only to escargot in popularity and can be eaten raw, over a salad or cooked in a chowder or made into burgers.

2. Conch shells are occasionally used as a building material, either in place of bricks, or as bulk for landfill.

3. Conch shells can be used as wind instruments. They are prepared by cutting a hole in the spire of the shell near the apex, and then blowing into the shell as if it were a trumpet, as in blowing horn. Sometimes a mouthpiece is used, but some shell trumpets are blown without one.

4. This shell is used as an important ritual object in Hinduism. The shell or Shankha is used as a ceremonial trumpet, as part of religious practices, for example puja.

5. The most well known species is the queen conch Eustrombus gigasadult. It is usually 15–31 cm (6–12 in) in length and the maximum reported size is 35.2 cm (13.9 in).

6. Conch pearls are sometimes referred to simply as 'pink pearls'.

The JewelMar brand carries collections that exemplify and embrace the Caribbean aesthetic. Browse select items online or make an appointment to view the entire collection.

Color on the Block

Color Blocking is everywhere you turn this year and will no doubt stay around into the next. Countless runway looks have been inspired with color blocking details. Dresses, pantsuits, and dressy tops..but do you accessorize? Why not?

Here are some of our favorite color block runway looks paired with different JewelMak styles.

Texture and color blocking together creates movement in an otherwise basic ensemble. This Alberta Ferretti dress has both neutrals and bold color, which match well with JewelMak's carnelian stretch bracelets and faceted bezel earrings in 14k yellow gold.

Having fun with your colors is key. This sequined number from DKNY is already festive. For the wild child, pair it with multi colored bangles(seen above: dyed agate bangles by Jewelmak) or be bold with a statement piece like JewelMak's 8 row tiered white pearls necklace. Complimenting the dress with simple and light earrings (like these faceted pink chalcedony bezel drops) to keep the look fresh and the dress as the focal point.

Derek Lam has combined prints with color blocking into a fun piece for the office that could easily transition to evening. Accentuate the color with JewelMak's bold stretch agate bracelets or pay subtle tribute with these stackable jade rings. Go the other way and add to the mix with a statement bib necklace in sterling silver.

Color blocking does not necessarily mean bright colors. This Jil Sander dress is a prime example of how neutrals and muted tones can be just as vibrant when blocked well. Match with equally muted styles like the gray tones of Jewelmak's stretch agate bracelet or its lace agate earring. JewelMak's new stretch charm bracelets offer an elegant addition to the stackable trend.

Your accessories and jewelry can also be the color blocked subjects of your outfit. Wear your favorite jeans and basic tees with a stack of colored bangles or statement necklaces. Below, find some other color blocking styles for everyday wear:

For the adventurous, mix and match with JewelMak's vibrant gemstone studs. Also works great if you have multiple ear piercings.

Color blocked gemstones! It's all about the details with these Crystal studs in Sterling Silver.

However you put together your color basics, remember to HAVE FUN!

What Happens in Vegas...

Attendance this year at JCK Las Vegas was up 16% according to JCK Events staff. The venue was much nicer this year, which may have been a draw, but did the increased number of attendance make a difference for vendors and guests? We want to know about your experience navigating the new show set up.

JewelMak has set up a very quick survey to hear your thoughts and opinions on the show organization and also, of course, how you felt about JewelMak's place at the show.

Viva Las Vegas

JCK Las Vegas is fast approaching once more and everyone has their noses to their respective grindstones in preparation for the big show. JewelMak is no different. We're in the midst of producing some of our most eclectic and evolved collections to date. It's an exciting time right now, but not just because of our swirling production; it's a big year for JCK as well.

This year will see the new venue for the JCK Las Vegas show. Long held at the Sands Expo in the Venetian, it now finds itself at the Mandalay Bay. I remember the high buzz at last year's show. Everyone was speculating on the layout, size, atmosphere, even the state of the art technology of the venue. The reality will remain to be seen, but the anticipation is giving everyone ants in their pants.

(JewelMak AD featured in the upcoming May issue of JCK)

At the end of the day, it's still about the jewelry. What's the new stone? The best color? With the gold cost soaring like it is, we might need to consider gold as endangered as the American Bald Eagle. This year, JewelMak is steadfast in presenting the best styles to combat the rising costs.

Stay tuned next week: "Who Needs Gold?"

Battle of the Bands

Statement pieces on the red carpet generally gravitate towards necklace. In recent years, there have been a lack of necklaces and a resurrgence of earrings and bangles. The latest addition? Arm cuffs/bands. When done tastefully and simply, it is gives your red carpet look an edgy class.

Minimal to the Max

Simple. Fashion is rarely simple, but that's the (somewhat) aim of the latest Spring 2011 trend. No ruffles or folds, just clean cut lines. Jewelry will mimic this in the consumer with popular purchases steming towards the classic and simple:

Naturally Nature

Mother Nature has become a hot trend this past year and she is not going away. Spring 2011 sees everything from floral motifs to eco-concious materials to animal prints. These natural elements are no longer subtle accents and patterns. This season Mother Nature is shouting it to the clouds!

Jewelry will continue to reflect that trend with colored gemstones, floral and animal motifs. Even tribal looks. These looks go along with some of our spring colors
